Singing Doorbell

Project Completed: February 2000

Introduction

This project came about because I could never hear the doorbell from my room in the basement. And why buy a solution when you can build one? I wanted to go for variety so I built in 16 tunes to choose from.

The circuit is designed to turn on when the doorbell is pressed. So the battery is used only when it is playing a tune (so the battery will last a very long time). The four switches are used to select the tunes (16 binary settings). The pushbutton is to test the doorbell song. And the LED is a visual indicator.

Update (Feb 2005): In case anyone is wondering if the design is any good...This doorbell has been in operation for 5 years now and it works as well as the day I finished it, and I have yet to replace the battey.
